Cherries This has been a terrific growing season to date for cherries. A mild winter followed by a mild to hot spring has produced ideal bloom and pollination conditions. We had a fast, well distributed bloom with plenty of bees flying meaning we will have timely crops this year unlike last year. Our first pick on dark sweet cherries will be approximately June 6 while our first limited pick of Rainiers will be on or around June 11 th . Bob Schefter Bob Schefter grew up in the Yakima Valley, but it took him a while to realize the fruit industry was his destiny. His flirtation with the fruit business began with his first kiss, which happened in an apple orchard. Later he would work during summer breaks in local orchards and even spent a summer with WSDA as a cherry inspector. Jeff Ritts is the epitome of “work hard to play hard”. As a former Marine he is often the “first in, last out” in the office. Even though Jeff has a degree in Computer Engineering, he considers his Marine Corps experience to be as impactful on his life and career as his time in college at Tampa Tech.
