Katie Balam is an active single mom who loves to stay busy. She volunteers on multiple committees and events, coaches her kids’ games, enjoys taking on new tasks, and still makes time to have her own entrepreneurial side businesses. Her multi-tasking skills help her in her accounting role as she balances handling multiple Superfresh Growers® accounts.

Katie was born and raised in Yakima, studying at Davis High School and Yakima Valley Community College (YVCC). She originally had plans to pursue nursing, and was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, when the birth of her oldest detoured her plans. She switched her focus to accounting and completed all accounting classes at YVCC.

Katie started with Domex Superfresh Growers in 2014, which was her first step into the tree fruit industry. She currently works in accounting, handling the day to day accounting for DSG Logistics, as well as handling other Superfresh Growers accounts. She enjoys the different responsibilities and job duties that come with her position; “it keeps work interesting and fun,” Katie writes. She says the outcome of feeling accomplished motivates her on the day-to-day. “I feel like the more I have on my desk to do, the better I work,” explains Katie.

Katie is an avid planner, and one of the key members for the Superfresh Growers annual Christmas party planning team. Her favorite work memories are “from past Christmas parties, of course! I enjoy seeing everyone having a good time with our work family outside of the office.” Part of the planning committee duties are to incorporate office spirit and community events throughout the year. Katie ensures Superfresh Growers annually participates in a blood drive for the American Red Cross, which stems from her passion for nursing.

When not at work, Katie enjoys spending time with her two boys: Levi, age six, and Noah, age five. “I coach their baseball team, and have coached their soccer team in the past. They keep me super busy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” She is also very close with her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and grandparents.

Katie always seems to have some kind of side business going on from LuLaRoe clothing to selling jewelry. Her newest project is a mobile jewelry boutique. She recently purchased a cargo trailer and enjoyed transforming it into her new business. “I absolutely love it!” Katie shares.

Katie is a detail oriented multi-tasker who is always up for a new project or task, all of what make her The Force Behind Fresh®.
